Lakeside Loop

The Lakeside ride starts on Miramar Rd., and goes up to Hwy. 67 via Scripps Poway. There, it goes south into Lakeside (going past where Wildcat Canyon hits 67 for the trip home), through Mission Trails Park, and to the coast on Friars Road. Then it's a familiar ride back toward the UCSD campus on the Rose Canyon Bike Trail.

Difficulty Moderate-Hard

Duration 3 to 3.5 hrs

Distance 87 km

Climbing 1068 meters

Start at Eastgate Mall & Regents Road. Head east on Eastgate Mall.

Turn left at Miramar Road, to go east.

Go across I-15 and up the hill. The road turns into Pomerado Road.

At the top, turn right at the light, which will keep you on Pomerado Road.

At the bottom of the descent, turn right onto Scripps Poway Parkway. Follow it all the way to the top.

At the top, turn right onto Hwy 67, southbound. Go down the (eventual) descent, past the concrete mine, and through the outskirts of Lakeside.

After the stop light at Willow Road, turn right onto Lakeside Ave.

Turn right at the next intersection, the road stays Lakeside Ave.

Follow the traffic flow onto Riverside Dr. You will eventually pass an elementary school on the right (north) side of the road.

Turn right onto Riverford Rd, and then 200 meters later, left onto El Nopal.

Turn left at the light onto North Magnolia Ave.

Turn right onto Mast Boulevard.

Just after you pass the high school (on the south side of the road), you'll want to get into the left lane in order to turn left onto West Hills Parkway. The dump will be on your right at this intersection.

Go under Hwy 56, and turn right onto Mission Gorge Rd.

Bear right into Mission Trails Park on Father Junipero Serra Trail. The dead end ahead signs apply only to cars, as there is a pedestrian-bike path on the right side of the road. The left side is open to oncoming traffic.

At the end of the walk/bike path, you can turn right into the visitor center driveway and there is a drinking fountain you can patronize, if you're thirsty.

Go up the short, steep hill and turn right onto Mission Gorge Rd.

Mission Gorge Rd. will turn into Friars Rd. Take Friars Rd. all the way to Mission Bay.

Turn right onto Sea World Drive.

At the next light, turn left onto East Mission Bay Dr. You will go right past Fiesta Island. From here, you may pick up the directions home given on the Fiesta Island route page.
